Breathability

Therefore, a higher value indicates more breathability as follows:

Layering

A very fine structure with incredibly small holes makes up the membrane meaning water droplets can’t fit through the holes, but water vapor molecules can. This design keeps snow and rain from outside the jacket from getting inside while allowing perspiration to escape.
- Insulation layer – The main barrier preventing heat from passing through the fabric is the insulation layer. Although down can also be an option, synthetic insulation is more common in jackets.
- Lining – The layer closest to your skin is this one. The lining holds everything else, shielding the other layers from the inside.
