Hey guys, and welcome back to Beach and Fishing and my Vibe Skipjack 90 Fishing Kayak review. Now, as you are probably aware, when it comes to anything to to with the great outdoors, there are two essential truths:

  1. There are a great number of variations of every piece of equipment, tackle and accessory that you could be looking for.
  2. Everybody has an opinion on which of these variations is best at any given time – which is generally due to the fact that that particular item has helped them catch fish.

So with that in mind, one thing I have tried to do on this site is review the products I use to give you an idea of what may work for you as you head out to the water and chase the big ones.

What is the Vibe Skipjack 90 Fishing Kayak

The Vibe Skipjack 90 is a sit on top fishing kayak measuring 9 feet long and 32 inches wide with pronounced edges on the side for added stability. Its shorter length makes it one of the more maneuverable kayaks available with a tracking ability that is quite impressive for a 9′ boat.

Now, in terms of its ability to be termed as a fishing kayak, in my opinion it must have at least one thing – rod holders. Luckily there are four here with a lot of room for customization and/or mounted accessories and other modifications. There are also 2 sealed hatches with bag inserts and a large bungeed rear area to hold a tackle box or cooler etc. as well.

Other factors here include:

Build quality

Thanks to its ultra-stable and durable rotomolded single-piece polyethylene build, the Skipjack 90 is fully waterproof and leakproof. Also, add the fact that it was designed with built-in buoyancy that keeps you from sinking regardless of the conditions.

Another noteworthy construction feature is Skipjack 90’s sleek hull design which increases the kayak’s speed so that you can reach your destination quickly, whether it’s a hidden cove or further downstream. Additionally, many kayaks with pricing below USD$600 are not designed to be stood upon whilst fishing. This kayak addresses this issue by making its deck area slip-resistant. It is stable enough for the paddler to stay upright in the face of normal-sized waves.

Storage

As above, this kayak also is equipped with storage spaces for all of your essential fishing equipment with room for customization, such as a mounting point for rod holders, a GPS, trolling motor or other types of accessories as well.

The Skipjack 90 is also outfitted with a couple of sealed hatches in the middle and at the bow for quick access. The hatches have waterproof bags that will shield your supplies and gear from splashing too.

Portability and maneuverability

This vessel is designed for easy transportation, measuring only 9 feet long with a weight of only 46 pounds making it small enough to fit in the back of an SUV. It is also equipped with four carrying handles, two on each side and one at the bow and stern. This gives you a lot of carrying points, making lifting and bringing it to and from the water a breeze.

In terms of performance on the water, the Skipjack 90 has a V-shaped keel suited for tracking, while its short, wide hull does not give you a hard time maneuvering in tight spaces. It’s an agile craft that provides the stability you require on rivers and oceans while also ideal for sailing on flat waters.

Comfortable seating

Kayak fishing can take a while (luckily) so with this in mind, this one comes with a padded seat and an adjustable backrest that is relatively soft and cushioned. Two side straps allow you to adjust the tilt as well.

Warranty

Consistent with their other products, Vibe offers a limited lifetime warranty for defects on all newly-purchased kayaks. This also comes with a one-year warranty on the attached parts. Note that this warranty only applies to Vibe products purchased from an authorized Vibe dealer.

Keep in mind however that the warranty’s validity applies only to the original purchaser and is strictly non-transferable and if you will claim this warranty, proof of purchase must be presented.

FAQs

Can you stand in Skipjack 90?

Yes, Skipjack 90 allows some good room for a stable stance. The kayak’s 32-inch beam (which is quite broad for a standard 9-foot kayak), the Skipjack’s pronounced hull edges contribute to a rock-solid ride that deters tipping or swaying as you make every effort reeling in that monster catfish while you are standing.

Can you drill into the Skipjack 90?

Yes, you can bore into the kayak, especially if your purpose is to mount other gear tracks and valuable accessories. If you must drill, we suggest using waterproof silicone, keeping the holes watertight.
However, keep in mind that drilling the kayak can lead to unsatisfactory outcomes, and the product’s warranty does not cover it.

Does the Skipjack 90 come with a paddle?

Yes, this product comes with a paddle upon purchase. It is detachable for ease of transport making it adjustable for paddling preferences as well.
